San Francisco

What an international city.  Everywhere we turned we heard different languages.  July 4th we had a delicious dinner in Chinatown.  With all the signs in Chinese and Mandarin speakers all around us, we could easily imagine truly being back in China.

The trolley cars are still running in the city, but we chose to use the city bus (much less expensive) and just take a picture on the trolley! Benjamin was fascinated to see how they turned them and pushed them by hand at the end of the line.

A visit to San Francisco would not be complete without a visit to Lombard Street, the most crooked street in America.  There was a huge traffic jam to drive on this street and we decided we didn't really want to waste our time like that.  So, later we walked up a very, very steep hill to get a photo.  After a lot of walking around the city, we have determined that San Francisco is an incredibly hilly city.  No gym would be needed if one lived here - just walking from place to place would keep you in shape.  Our lungs and legs have gotten a great work-out.

Our campground was just across the Golden Gate Bridge, so we were able to cross it several times during our stay here.  Even though we were charged $6 to cross  back into the city each time, we enjoyed the trip every time.  It's an amazing structure.

We're traveling about four hours east today to Yosemite National Park which we've heard overflows with natural beauty.  Hopefully the July 4th crowd will have thinned out by the time we arrive.
