We've been on the road five nights and have traveled over 2000 miles from Jacksonville, FL to Gallup, NM. Our little 16-foot camping trailer and our Toyota Sienna mini van have become home.
We are a well-connected family. Katherine is logging hours for her summer internship as we travel with her wireless internet card. Jerry and I also have a wireless internet card so we can communicate with you and find campgrounds for the days to come. We're listening to satellite radio and there are three cell phones amongst us. A bit different from the tent camping that Jerry and I did as young marrieds. Of course no conections are possible when you're in the middle of NM without wireless coverage. So, when that happens, we listen to the "Heavenly Man" on CD, read children's books aloud to Benjamin and watch DVDs with Katherine in the backseat.
At Carsbad Caverns in New Mexico, we marveled at the underground beauty, grew weary with the long hike underground, and then were quite dismayed to learn that the passenger elevators were both out of service. So, we waited with all the other tourists underground for close to one hour to head back up on the freight elevator. It was like being at an underground Disney World.
We should be at the Grand Canyon this afternoon. We're hoping to see the sunset over the canyon tonight and then do some hiking tomorrow morning. It will be good to stretch our legs after all this driving.
What an adventure! I was reading about some people going to China for missionary work and I email Claire 2 see if you were still there. I'm out of touch! She let me know about your blog. Happy Adventures!
ReplyDeleteHi Guys,
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys are having fun. We hope to see you when we get back to the states. Maybe you can live in the travel trailer instead of a quad! ha
